Snap is trying to move Snapchat deeper into the commercial journey. In a company anniversary letter, chief executive Evan Spiegel described advertising growth as Snap's top business priority and set an ambitious goal: by the end of 2027, businesses should view Snapchat as a sales channel.
For Saudi marketers, that positioning deserves attention. Snapchat already has exceptional cultural and audience relevance in the Kingdom. The strategic question is whether brands can connect that reach to verified leads, purchases and repeat customers.
The commercial signals in Snap's plan
In Snap's official 8 September 2026 letter, Spiegel said advertising revenue grew 9% in the latest quarter and small and medium-sized businesses now contribute more than 30% of advertising revenue. Snap reported 493 million daily active users and 971 million monthly active users globally.
The company wants multimodal models to learn from sequences of user behaviour and improve recommendations before a person explicitly searches. It also sees creators as a more effective advertising layer. Snap cited research in which creator ads generated 25% longer viewing and 16% more active attention than conventional brand ads.
Social Media Today covered the letter, but the company announcement is the primary basis for these claims.
Why creator commerce changes the media brief
Creator content can reduce the distance between discovery and trust, especially when the creator demonstrates a product in the language, setting and use case of the audience. Generative ranking can then match that content to people with a higher probability of acting.
Yet automation does not prove incrementality. A platform can report attractive attributed conversions that would have occurred elsewhere. Saudi brands need clean server-side events, catalogue accuracy and experiments that separate genuine lift from captured demand.
A practical Saudi test
Choose one category with clear inventory and margin. Produce creator-led Arabic assets for different use cases, connect product or lead data, and hold back a comparable audience. Measure completed revenue, qualified appointments or activated customers—not swipe-ups alone.
Creative teams should also preserve human specificity. Generative tools can improve selection and variation, but the source material still needs a credible person, a clear promise and a locally relevant proof point.
Karim's strategic takeaway
Snapchat should be judged as a commercial system in Saudi Arabia, not only as a reach platform. The winners will combine creator credibility, reliable conversion data and operational fulfilment. If Snap can prove incremental sales at scale, media planning in the Kingdom will shift from allocating Snapchat a social budget to giving it a measurable role in the revenue plan.
