Reddit completed a consequential advertising change on 30 September 2026: the Ads API operation for creating an onsite Lead Generation Form now returns `410 Gone`, and existing ads that use Reddit-hosted forms are paused. Retrieval of historical forms and leads remains available, but advertisers are directed to offsite lead generation measured with the Reddit Pixel or Conversions API. The exact dates, endpoint behavior and migration direction appear in the official Reddit Ads API change history.

What changed in the conversion mechanism

An onsite form allowed a user to submit details without leaving Reddit. Removing it shifts the decisive part of the journey to the advertiser: the click opens a website or landing page, the page captures consent and answers, the CRM receives the record, and the advertiser returns outcome signals to Reddit. That adds friction, but it also gives the business more control over qualification, privacy language, routing and follow-up.

The change affects more than campaign setup. Integrations that still call the retired create endpoint will fail, automated campaign templates may reference an unavailable objective, and active ads built on onsite forms can no longer deliver. Historical GET and LIST operations should be used to preserve records before teams simplify old integrations.

The commercial trade-off

Offsite journeys often produce fewer raw submissions because loading a page and completing a separate form require more effort. The remaining leads can be more valuable when the page explains the offer, asks one or two qualifying questions and rejects unsuitable demand before it reaches sales. The correct comparison is therefore not onsite cost per lead versus offsite cost per lead; it is cost per qualified conversation, appointment, accepted opportunity or sale.

Advertisers also regain first-party measurement. A properly consented landing page can distinguish campaign, creative and audience, record the next steps in the CRM, and send a qualified or completed event back through Conversions API. That feedback is useful only when definitions are consistent and sensitive information is excluded.

A controlled migration plan

First, inventory every Reddit campaign, automation and reporting job that references lead forms. Export historical records, pause broken templates and map the new click destination. Build a mobile-first page with a clear promise, proof, privacy notice and no more than the questions required to qualify the enquiry. Confirm that source parameters survive into the CRM.

Then validate three events: landing-page view, valid form submission and a downstream qualified outcome. Run a seven-day quality check before increasing spend. Monitor page-load time, form completion, duplicate rate, contactability, sales acceptance, booked appointments and revenue. If volume falls but the cost per accepted lead improves, the migration is working.

GCC and healthcare implications

Saudi and UAE campaigns need fast Arabic and English experiences, local contact methods and explicit consent. For healthcare, do not send symptoms, diagnoses, treatment choices or other sensitive fields to an advertising platform. Pass a neutral event such as `qualified_booking` after internal validation, and keep the clinical details inside the protected patient system.

Karim's strategic takeaway

Use the sunset to replace a platform-owned form with an owned conversion asset. A strong landing page and CRM feedback loop can outlive Reddit, support other channels and reveal whether the campaign creates real business. The immediate priority is continuity; the longer-term advantage is better qualification and first-party learning.
