Planned shutdowns, turnarounds and outages are among the most expensive and operationally sensitive events in an asset-heavy business. Wipro, Aramco and SAP have now launched Wipro STO360 to bring the planning, coordination, inspection and execution of these events into one digital operating layer.

Built on SAP Business Technology Platform, the solution is intended for oil and gas, chemicals, mining, manufacturing and utilities. Aramco says it will implement the product to improve the efficiency and productivity of turnaround and inspection planning and execution.

From maintenance software to operational intelligence

The strategic value is not a prettier maintenance dashboard. A shutdown involves contractors, spare parts, permits, safety controls, inspections and thousands of dependent tasks. Fragmented information can extend downtime or create expensive execution risks.

STO360 is designed to give teams shared visibility and decision support across this process. Wipro also positions the product within its broader AI-led industrial transformation work, while SAP has granted it endorsed-app status.

The Saudi business opportunity

Saudi Arabia can create more value when hard-won operating knowledge becomes reusable software rather than remaining an internal process. A product proven in Aramco-scale operations can be relevant to regional refineries, utilities, mines and manufacturers that already run SAP environments.

The commercial proof will come from measurable outcomes: shorter shutdown duration, fewer schedule deviations, safer handovers, better contractor coordination and lower lost-production cost. Buyers should demand baselines and verified results rather than treating the AI label as evidence of value.

Karim's strategic takeaway

This is a model for Saudi enterprise innovation: combine local operating depth with a global technology stack, prove the product in a demanding environment and then package the capability for other industries and markets. The strongest story is not digital transformation itself; it is turning operational reliability into a product that can scale.
